Profile:

This project was concerned with the provision of a security framework that would enable the Iraqi constitutional referendum and general election, scheduled to take place without hindrance from the security environment and allow democracy to prevail.

Aegis was contracted by United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), who awarded the project in two components, delineated by mobile liaison and static security function, but commanded by a joint headquarters. Aegis deployed some 780 personnel, task organised into 26 teams and supported by 41 armoured vehicles. UNOPS, Aegis and the other prime stakeholders were in agreement that whatever had to be done to ensure that the success of the democratic electoral process would be done, within the bounds of the regulatory framework.

This ‘can do, will do’ ethos pervaded the overall operation and was the stance that was taken as the project team met its almost daily problems and challenges.
